In nonfiction, I represent academics, journalists, lawyers and historians. I am interested in people who really know about things, and who are able – and eager – to communicate that knowledge widely. I love reading stylish, persuasive nonfiction writing; I love being taught something new, and I love having my mind changed. My clients have written books on wealth, ordinary language philosophy, climate change, migration, medieval art and much more besides. I am a huge admirer of successful essayists, and of people who can write about the extremely current in a way which feels refracted and surprising.
In fiction, I am drawn to distinctive voice, to texts whose ownership feels unmistakeable, and whose writers imbue the reader with absolute confidence in their powers from the very first pages. I like to be transported, surprised, entertained, made to think and to feel. I love the experience of a jolt of realisation, and I love to be made to laugh.
I am looking, above all, for interesting and stylish writing, and for writers with whom I can work to build long term careers.
